MoorArts Stars Sparkle in Season’s First “Music on Main Street” Concert

MoorArts launched Moorestown Parks & Recreation Department’s 2015 Music on Main Street free summer concert series on June 22. A crowd of over 200 gathered on the Moorestown Community House lawn to enjoy the evening’s entertainment, which included a variety of artists performing selections of pop, jazz, and musical theater. Singer Katie Carpenter accompanied by guitarist Jaren Angud kicked the evening off, followed by harpist Alyssa Caffrey, vocalists Sarah Zimmer and Olivia Manlove, and singer/songwriter Andrew Moorer. New this season to the concert series are special activities for children at 6:30 before the main stage performances at 7:30 p.m. MoorArts brought along “Mother Goose” (actress Marilyn Scanlon), who delighted younger audience members with nursery rhymes and interactive ‘live theater’. The Music on Main Street summer concert series, presented by the Moorestown Parks & Recreation Dept. and supported by Moorestown Business Association, Moorestown Community House, and MoorArts, runs Monday evenings June 22--August 10. Summer Musical Theater

somfeatureIn 2014, MoorArts proudly presented The Sound of Music. This final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world's most beloved musical. When a postulate proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy. The family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre. The motion picture version remains the most popular movie musical of all time.
